When Bitterness Speaks

Naomi’s grief was so heavy that she asked to be called Mara, meaning bitter. She interpreted her losses through pain and felt the Almighty had dealt bitterly with her. Scripture does not hide such honest sorrow. Yet Ruth’s story also shows that God was still working beyond what Naomi could see. In seasons of bitterness, we may bring our lament to Him, trusting that His hidden mercy is not finished.
